JAMSHEDPUR – Youth Unity for Voluntary Action, a social organisation working in Sakchi and surrounding areas, has invited school teachers to participate in a one-day workshop focused on preventing child marriage and protecting children’s rights. The organisation, registered under the Indian Trust Act, has been running a series of programmes aimed at safeguarding the rights of adolescents and curbing the practice of child marriage.

According to a letter issued by the organisation, the workshop is being organised specifically for school teachers under the theme “Child Marriage Prevention and Child Rights.” The session aims to make teachers aware of the causes behind child marriage, its harmful effects, the laws prohibiting the practice, the rights of children, and the role teachers can play in preventing such marriages within their communities.

The invitation letter, signed by Project Coordinator Chandmani Sabaiyan, describes teachers as important guides in the lives of children. It states that with the cooperation and active participation of teachers, children can be provided a safe environment, helped to continue their education, and supported in building a society free of child marriage.

The workshop has been scheduled for June 20, 2026, running from 10 am to 3 pm at Hotel Kenelite in Sakchi. Principals of schools have been requested to ensure participation of teachers from their respective institutions so that discussions on the subject can lead to an effective future plan of action.

The initiative comes amid continued attention on child marriage and child rights issues, with international rights bodies also having recently flagged concerns over the legitimisation of child marriage in other parts of the world.
