RANCHI – A man arrested in the petrol bomb attack case on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office here was shot in the leg by police after he escaped from custody and was confronted during a search operation.
Police had earlier arrested him for the petrol bomb attack. He was held inside the Kotwali police station lockup.
However, he managed to escape from the lockup. Officers began a search soon after the escape.
Meanwhile, a raid team confronted him at the spot. He allegedly attempted to flee once again.
In response, police opened fire to stop him. The bullet struck him in the leg.
“He tried to escape, so we retaliated,” a police officer said. Officers then arrested him and rushed him to hospital.
He is now undergoing treatment for the leg injury. Besides, the case stems from an attack days earlier.
Unidentified attackers had hurled a petrol bomb at the Ranchi RSS office. The attack caused alarm among residents in the area.
Moreover, police detained several suspects following the incident. Ranchi is the capital city of Jharkhand state.
Investigators are now questioning the injured accused. On the other hand, the broader case remains under investigation.
