RANCHI – Voting began in Jharkhand for two Rajya Sabha seats as three candidates entered the contest and legislators gathered at the Assembly to cast their ballots.

Polling for the Rajya Sabha elections commenced on Thursday. Voting is being conducted in the Jharkhand Assembly complex.

The polling process started at 9 am. It will continue until 4 pm.

Three candidates are contesting the election. However, only two seats are available.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha nominated Baidyanath Ram. Congress fielded Pranav Jha for the election.

Meanwhile, NDA-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani is also in the race. He reached the Assembly premises before voting.

Speaking to reporters, Nathwani expressed confidence about the outcome. He said he was fully confident of victory.

Meanwhile, 16 Congress legislators arrived together in a bus. They reached the Assembly to participate in the voting process.

According to election arithmetic, a candidate requires support from at least 28 legislators. This number is necessary to secure one Rajya Sabha seat.

The ruling Mahagathbandhan is considered to be in a strong position. The alliance collectively has 56 legislators in the Assembly.

Its strength includes 34 MLAs from JMM. Congress contributes 16 legislators to the alliance.

Moreover, RJD has four MLAs. CPI(ML) has two legislators.

On the other hand, the NDA has 24 legislators. The BJP accounts for 21 of them.

In addition, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has one MLA. AJSU and JD(U) also have one legislator each.

Meanwhile, the lone MLA of the JLKM led by Jairam Mahato will also vote. His participation has attracted political attention.

The election outcome will determine occupants of two Rajya Sabha seats. Political parties are closely monitoring the voting process.

The Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of Parliament. Members are elected indirectly by elected legislators of state assemblies.
