Patient Pulled Back From Fourth-floor Window At Dimna Facility
Key Points:
- Patient attempts to climb out of window at MGM Medicine Ward
- Fellow patient rushes in, pulls him back to safety
- Man discharged later with family’s consent after the incident
JAMSHEDPUR – A major incident was averted on Friday night at MGM Hospital in Dimna, after a patient admitted to Medicine Ward Part-Two attempted to climb out through a fourth-floor window. The presence of mind and courage shown by another patient in the same ward ultimately saved his life.
According to information received, the man involved was identified as 52-year-old Sufal Singh, a resident of Uparsoli village under Dhalbhumgarh block. He had been admitted to the hospital since June 17 with complaints of cold, fever, and bodily stiffness. He was shifted to bed number 451 on Friday evening.
However, he grew restless later that night. He moved towards the window and attempted to climb outside, managing to push half his body beyond the window frame before anyone could react. Meanwhile, Balbir Pandey, a Burmamines resident admitted on bed number 453 nearby, noticed what was happening. He rushed over immediately and pulled Singh back inside.
A ledge built just outside the window also helped in controlling the situation, according to those present. The ward witnessed a brief spell of panic and commotion once the incident became known. Security staff and doctors soon arrived at the spot to assess the situation.
Family members said Singh had been suffering from high fever for the past two days and had not eaten anything during that period. He was discharged from the hospital afterward, with consent given by his relatives.
Incidents involving patient safety in hospital wards have periodically drawn attention from Jamshedpur’s healthcare administration, which has in recent weeks taken steps including appointing nodal officers for oversight at MGM and Sadar hospitals.
