Painting, Speech And Quiz Contests Held To Honour Leader’s Legacy

JAMSHEDPUR – An event was organised at West Punjabi Refugee Middle School in Golmuri to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
The programme was held under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Culture and was organised by the Aastha Nav Chetna Foundation. Social workers Sardar Govind Singh and Sukhbir Singh Jolly played a key role in organising the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukhbir Singh Jolly said a painting competition, speech competition, film screening, quiz contest and an evening of devotional songs were held among schoolchildren as part of the celebrations. Winners of the various competitions were felicitated during the event.
Besides trophies, the winning students were given school dresses and study materials. Jolly said the objective of the programme was to introduce the younger generation to Dr Mukherjee’s life, his ideas and his contribution to national service.
He added that similar national commemorative programmes were being organised across the country to mark Dr Mukherjee’s 125th birth anniversary. According to Jolly, the central government has remembered him as a nation-builder, a distinguished educationist and a leader devoted to national unity.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, served as India’s first industry and supply minister after independence and remains a prominent figure associated with the country’s political and educational history.
The event in Jamshedpur came during a month when several community and cultural programmes have been held across the city. Independence Day celebrations were also marked with enthusiasm at various institutions, including DAV Public School, where students took part in a cultural fete.
Besides school events, the district has also seen cultural workshops in recent weeks, including a session on Jharkhand’s folk arts where participants learned traditional Sohrai painting techniques.
Meanwhile, other civic and community programmes have also taken place in the city this month, including a road-safety awareness session for students at DBMS Career Academy and a Hindi speech competition organised at Xavier School, Gamharia.
