JAMSHEDPUR – An 80-year-old man died in a road accident on Saturday morning under Uliyan police station limits. The victim, Sudarshan Sharma, was a resident of Sankosai Road Number 4. According to information received, Sharma had gone out for his routine morning walk when the incident occurred.
An unidentified bus travelling from Dimna towards Mango struck him during the walk, leaving him critically injured. Panic broke out at the spot soon after the accident. Local residents rushed to help and took the injured man to MGM Hospital for immediate treatment.
Doctors at the hospital began treating Sharma upon his arrival. However, he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment due to the severity of the wounds he had sustained. Uliyan police reached the spot after being informed of the accident and launched a preliminary investigation.
The body has since been taken into police custody and sent to MGM Medical College for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, police are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras installed nearby in an effort to identify the bus and trace its driver, who fled the scene after the accident. The locality remained in a state of mourning following the incident.
Road accidents involving unidentified vehicles fleeing the scene have remained a recurring challenge for Jamshedpur traffic police, who have periodically relied on CCTV surveillance networks across the city to identify absconding drivers in such cases.
