Power Outage Forced Residents Outdoors Before Mishap

CHHAPRA – Seven people were injured after a speeding tractor ran over residents sleeping beside a road in Bihar’s Saran district.
The incident occurred in Takht Dalit Tola. The locality falls under Mashrak Nagar Panchayat.
Earlier, the area’s transformer had stopped functioning. Residents had been without electricity.
Moreover, intense heat forced several families outdoors. Around a dozen people slept near the roadside.
During the night, an uncontrolled tractor entered the area. It ran over those sleeping nearby.
Meanwhile, seven people sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Mashrak Community Health Centre.
After initial treatment, doctors referred all injured persons. They were shifted to Sadar Hospital, Chhapra.
Furthermore, police reached the scene soon afterward. Officers seized the tractor involved.
However, the driver escaped in darkness. He could not be apprehended immediately.
According to villagers, the tractor was moving quickly. It lost control on a curved stretch.
Subsequently, it struck the sleeping residents. The vehicle was later abandoned nearby.
Meanwhile, Nagar Panchayat Chairman Sohan Mahanto reached the spot. He helped arrange medical assistance.
The injured included five-year-old Mahi Kumari. She is the daughter of Lav Kush Thakur.
In addition, Gulpati Devi, aged 70, suffered injuries. Kadit Devi, also 70, was injured.
Furthermore, Raja Thakur, aged 17, was among victims. Kajal Devi, aged 20, also sustained injuries.
Pawan Thakur, aged 25, was injured. Lav Kush Thakur, aged 28, also required treatment.
Police said an investigation had begun. Further action would follow the inquiry.
