Key Points:
- Burglars smash rear door and almirah lock at Tata Motors Colony flat
- Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 25,000 cash stolen
- Telco police register FIR, scan CCTV footage; raids under way
JAMSHEDPUR – Thieves broke into a locked residential quarter inside Tata Motors Colony in Telco on Sunday morning, making off with jewellery worth approximately Rs 5 lakh and Rs 25,000 in cash in one of the bolder burglaries in the township in recent months.
The targeted flat was Quarter No. K2/13 at Cross Road Number 25. The occupant, Santosh Kumar Singh, a Tata Motors employee, had stepped out around 10:30 am to visit his father at Laxminagar.
The premises were thus left unattended. Burglars used that window to strike.
On entering, the intruders forced open the rear door of the quarter. They then broke open the almirah locker inside. Gold and silver ornaments and cash were stolen in a similar incident earlier in Bhalubasa.
However, the sheer scale of Sunday’s haul — Rs 5 lakh in ornaments plus Rs 25,000 cash — made it a particularly significant daytime crime for the area. The thieves fled without being detected.
Santosh Kumar Singh returned home late at night. He found household items scattered across the floor and the locker broken open. The discovery left him shaken.
Neighbours gathered at the site after being alerted. Meanwhile, Telco police arrived at the scene shortly after and conducted an inspection of the premises.
On the basis of the victim’s statement, Jamshedpur police have registered a formal case. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the colony. In addition, investigators are conducting raids to identify and arrest those responsible.
“We are going through all available camera footage carefully,” a police source said. “The identities of those involved will be established soon.”
The incident has unsettled residents of Tata Motors Colony. Many in the locality are now calling for stronger security measures in the residential area.
