Traders demand increased night patrolling after latest theft
Key Points:
- Thieves break locks at Shyam General Store, flee with ₹1 lakh
- Abdul Kalam’s fruit shop also targeted, ₹90,000 stolen from cash box
- Traders demand stronger security amid rising theft incidents
JAMSHEDPUR – Burglars broke into two shops in Bistupur Market late Saturday night and made off with nearly ₹1.90 lakh in cash.
The theft has left shopkeepers in the area shaken. It has also raised fresh concerns over security arrangements in the market.
According to details, the thieves first broke the lock of Rakesh Kumar’s Shyam General Store. They stole around ₹1 lakh in cash kept in the cash box.
The burglars then targeted a nearby fruit shop belonging to Abdul Kalam. They fled with approximately ₹90,000 kept in a cash box there.
Both shopkeepers discovered the broken locks and missing cash when they arrived to open their shops on Saturday morning. Neighboring traders soon gathered at the scene after learning of the theft.
Bistupur police station was informed of the incident. Officers reached the spot and inspected the site.
Police have begun examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras. They said the accused would be identified and arrested soon based on available evidence.
Traders in Bistupur Market have expressed anger over the recurring theft incidents. They have demanded increased night patrolling from the police administration.
Shopkeepers have also called for regular police patrolling and stronger security measures. They said the steps were necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The burglary follows a similar case last month at a shop on Dimna Main Road, where thieves made off with ₹80,000 in cash. Meanwhile, police had earlier cracked a burglary case in Jugsalai within 24 hours, recovering jewelry and cash.
In addition, a major burglary case was solved by MGM police last December. Similarly, gold worth ₹60 lakh was stolen from a teacher’s flat in Baridih last November.
