ADITYAPUR – Krishna Gope, an accused in the high-profile Sujay Nandi murder case and several other criminal matters, was brought to his ancestral home late Thursday evening under tight police security.
He arrived at Majhi Tola in the Adityapur police station area to attend the funeral of his late father, Arjun Gope. Gope had his final glimpse of his father’s body before helping carry the bier.
He subsequently shouldered the bier as part of the funeral rites. Police then escorted Gope under a heavy security cordon to Parvati Ghat in Bistupur, Jamshedpur.
There, the last rites of Arjun Gope were completed according to religious customs. A large contingent of police personnel remained deployed throughout the proceedings, led by the Adityapur station in-charge.
Police maintained strict vigilance over the entire security arrangement. Meanwhile, a large number of Gope’s supporters were also present at the venue.
However, the event concluded peacefully because of close police monitoring throughout. Officers kept special watch over the route and the cremation site to prevent any untoward incident.
The Bistupur locality, known for its markets and residential clusters, has previously seen heightened police deployment during sensitive events. Adityapur itself has been the site of several past law-and-order concerns in the district.
Officials said no untoward incident was reported during the funeral proceedings or the subsequent journey. The strict security arrangement remained in place until the completion of the cremation.
