JAMSHEDPUR – Chaos broke out near the old MGM Hospital in the Sitaramdera police station area on Monday evening after a group of youths allegedly attacked a shopkeeper with a sharp weapon.

The accused reportedly approached the shopkeeper demanding extortion money. He refused to pay, following which the assailants allegedly attacked him with the weapon, leaving him with a serious injury to his hand.

Panic spread through the area soon after, and a large crowd gathered at the spot. The injured shopkeeper, identified as Bichun Sharma, said the group was allegedly led by a man named Nandu Lohar.

According to Sharma, the youths arrived at his shop and began demanding money. He said the men hurled abuses and attacked him with the weapon when he declined to pay.

Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion, and the attackers fled. Sitaramdera police reached the spot promptly upon receiving information about the incident.

Officers brought the situation under control and detained one youth, while his associates managed to escape in the confusion. The injured shopkeeper was sent to the hospital for treatment.
