Accused Nabbed Near Hathighoda Mandir While Fleeing to Uttar Pradesh

JAMSHEDPUR – Police have arrested the main accused in a firing case that took place near Abhishek Jubilee tea shop on Bengal Club Road in the Sakchi police station area.
The shooting occurred around 10 pm on June 19. Officers booked the case under sections 109 and 308(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 27 of the Arms Act, registering it as case number 49/2026 at Sakchi police station. A 7.65 mm cartridge case was recovered from the spot at the time.
City DSP Sanjeev Kumar said the senior superintendent of police had ordered a special raiding team to crack the case. The team was led by the DSP (city) under the supervision of the superintendent of police (town). Investigators identified the suspect through technical analysis and secret information gathered during the probe.
Officers arrested the accused, Vipin Shukla, 28, near Hathighoda Mandir on June 21. He had reportedly been hiding from police continuously since the incident. He was caught while heading toward Mango bus stand, allegedly intending to flee to his native village in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested man is a resident of Duiladungri in the Golmuri police station area. Acting on information he provided, police recovered an illegal homemade pistol and a magazine that had been hidden in bushes along the banks of the Swarnarekha river.
During questioning, the accused confessed to the firing. He told investigators that he had opened fire to threaten shopkeepers on Bengal Club Road and extort money from them. He had gone into hiding immediately after the shooting. Police seized a homemade pistol, a magazine and a 7.65 mm cartridge case from him.
Officers are completing the process of sending the accused to judicial custody.
