JAMSHEDPUR – A three-day CISCE Zonal Kho Kho Championship for the 2026-27 season began on Monday at Vivekanand International School in the Mango locality of Jamshedpur.
School authorities said the tournament would run through June 24 on the campus grounds. More than 50 schools are sending students to compete in the meet.
Kho Kho is a traditional Indian tag sport played by two teams of nine players each on a rectangular field, and it has been part of national school sports competitions for decades. The CISCE, formally known as the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, organises zonal tournaments each year as a qualifying stage before regional and national rounds.
School officials said the competition was meant to encourage sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork among the participating students. Officials added that organisers had arranged facilities for players for the duration of the event.
The school’s principal welcomed guests, sports enthusiasts and parents at the opening ceremony. She said events of this kind give young athletes a platform to advance and demonstrate their abilities at the regional level. She added that she expected the championship to leave a lasting impression on participants and to sustain enthusiasm for sports among young people.
Mango is one of the larger residential and educational localities within Jamshedpur, and the area hosts several schools that regularly take part in inter-school sporting events. Jamshedpur has in recent years seen a series of CISCE and CBSE zonal-level competitions hosted across its schools, spanning sports such as cricket, athletics and Kho Kho.
