JAMSHEDPUR – A wedding ceremony in Bihar’s Samastipur district turned violent after the groom’s first wife arrived during the varmala ritual and accused him of hiding his earlier marriage.

A major dispute erupted in Lodipur Dhir village on Wednesday night. The incident happened under Patory police station limits in Samastipur district.

Meanwhile, the groom was exchanging garlands with the bride on stage. Suddenly, his first wife reached the venue and attacked him publicly.

The woman grabbed the groom’s collar before assaulting him. Panic spread among guests after the confrontation began.

Moreover, relatives from the bride’s side accused the groom of cheating. They alleged the family concealed his earlier marriage.

Around 40 baratis had arrived from Pranpur village in Vaishali district. The wedding was fixed between Asmita, daughter of Pradeep Sahni, and Pankaj Kumar, son of Rajkumar Sahni.

However, the marriage ceremony collapsed after the first wife appeared. Villagers and guests started chasing and beating baratis.

The groom suffered head injuries during the violence. His father was also allegedly held hostage by angry relatives.

Meanwhile, local residents informed police and Dial 112 teams. Officers later controlled the situation and took several people to the police station.

The groom’s first wife was identified as Neelam Devi. She belongs to Hasanpur Gangri village under Goroul police station in Vaishali district.

According to Neelam, she married Pankaj six years earlier in Tamil Nadu. Both reportedly worked together in a garment factory there.

Moreover, she claimed Pankaj hid their marriage from the bride’s family. She also alleged he kept misleading her continuously.

Neelam told police she had already filed an application earlier. She suspected her husband planned another marriage.

In contrast, the bride’s family said they never knew about the earlier marriage. They accused the groom’s family of fraud and deception.

A local police officer confirmed the dispute reached authorities. “Written complaints are being examined carefully,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, police detained both the groom and bride for questioning. Legal action is expected after the investigation progresses further.

The shocking incident video later spread across social media platforms. Discussions continued throughout the area after the violent disruption.
