JAMSHEDPUR – A chemistry teacher at BA College of Engineering and Technology (BACET) in Galudih was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his hostel room late Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Dr. Abhinandan Makhal, 44. He taught chemistry at the college.
His colleagues spotted him unconscious in his room. They immediately alerted the police.
On arrival, officers took possession of the body and launched a probe.
Meanwhile, the body was placed in the cold storage facility at MGM Hospital.
Dr. Makhal was originally from Hubli in West Bengal, near Kolkata. He had been serving the college for a considerable period.
In-charge of Galudih police station, Anku Kumar, confirmed the incident. He said the deceased had been associated with the institution for a long time.
An initial examination of the body revealed foam around the mouth of the deceased. This has led investigators to suspect that he may have consumed a toxic substance.
However, the police have refrained from drawing any firm conclusions at this stage.
“We are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” said a police official associated with the investigation.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The process is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death.
The news of his sudden demise has cast a shadow of grief across the college campus. Colleagues of the deceased have been left in a state of shock.
The case bears some resemblance to other suspicious deaths reported in the region in recent months. In one such case, a person was found dead under unclear circumstances near a local dam.
Earlier, a youth was found dead in Sitaramdera under similarly unexplained conditions. Another incident involved a man found dead in a well after going missing for two days.
