JAMSHEDPUR – A thief posing as a customer stole a gold chain worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a jewellery shop in Sakchi area.
The incident occurred at Binapani Jewellers on Tuesday. The establishment belongs to Raju Barman. A man entered the shop pretending to be a buyer.
The accused demonstrated sleight of hand during the theft. He repeatedly showed money to the shopkeeper. Moreover, he tried to build trust through his actions.
“He wanted to convince me he genuinely wanted to buy,” a source said. The thief kept displaying cash intermittently. However, he was waiting for the right moment.
The accused fled with the chain when he got the opportunity. The gold ornament was valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. Shop owner Raju Barman immediately realized the theft.
He approached former BJP leader Vikas Singh with the complaint. Singh subsequently informed Sakchi Police Station about the matter. The police were briefed about the entire incident.
Meanwhile, Ranjit Barman visited the police station on Wednesday. He is the president of Rashtriya Swarnkar Manch. In addition, he was accompanied by committee members.
The delegation filed a written complaint at the station. Police have registered a case in the matter. Investigation is currently underway to identify the accused.
