JAMSHEDPUR – A security guard suffered severe injuries after being brutally assaulted by car occupants at Seraikela district’s toll plaza on Friday afternoon.

Papunjay Kumar serves as security in-charge at the facility. He was performing routine VIP lane duty during daytime. However, the situation escalated when vehicle JH05Z-5828 attempted unauthorized passage.

The car occupants tried crossing without paying toll fees. Kumar requested identification documents from the passengers. Moreover, this standard procedure triggered aggressive behavior from travelers.

Initial assault targeted another security guard at the location. The attackers then focused their violence on Kumar specifically. Furthermore, they used a baseball bat for the attack.

Kumar attempted to escape toward the office building nearby. The assailants pursued him relentlessly through the premises. In addition, they continued their violent assault with weapons.

The baseball bat struck Kumar’s head, chest and back repeatedly. The weapon broke due to the intensity of strikes. Besides, the attackers also tore his uniform clothes.

Toll manager Himanshu Prasoon Singh filed a written complaint subsequently. The report was submitted to Adityapur police station immediately. Meanwhile, Kumar received medical attention for his injuries.

Kumar stated this was his first such experience. He now feels unsafe while performing duties. On the other hand, toll management has assured security improvements.

CCTV cameras recorded the entire violent incident clearly. The footage provides crucial evidence for investigation purposes. However, police have not yet identified the attackers.

Adityapur police station has initiated formal investigation proceedings. Officers are analyzing available evidence including video footage. Moreover, they are working to trace the vehicle registration.
