CHAIBASA – Security forces eliminated two hardcore Maoists in a fierce encounter in the Nachalda forest under Sonua police station in Chaibasa on Wednesday. The deceased included CPI (Maoist) zonal commander Sanjay Ganjhu and another active cadre, Hemanti Manjhiain.
During the operation, forces recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and Maoist literature. Authorities believe the operation has dealt a crucial blow to the group led by Amit Munda.
Jharkhand DGP Hails Success Against Naxals
Jharkhand Director General of Police Anurag Gupta visited Chakradharpur following the encounter to commend the forces. He stated that Naxalism in the state is on the decline, referring to their actions as criminal activities rather than ideological warfare.
“Naxalism is no longer a movement; it’s sheer hooliganism. Development programs are reaching even the remotest areas, yet they attempt to spread fear,” he said.
One Security Personnel Injured
During the gunfight, one security personnel sustained injuries and has been provided advanced medical care. Senior officials, including Zonal IG Akhilesh Jha and SP Ashutosh Shekhar, were present at the scene to oversee the operation.
Recent Anti-Naxal Operations in Jharkhand
Security forces have been actively targeting Maoist strongholds across Jharkhand. In a similar operation, four Naxalites were eliminated in West Singhbhum, marking a major success in the region.
Following the recent crackdown, DGP Anurag Gupta visited Chaibasa to praise the security forces for their continued efforts against Naxal insurgents.
Additionally, West Singhbhum police recently neutralized PLFI area commander Lambu, showcasing the state’s commitment to eradicating Naxal threats.
Authorities are also keeping a close watch on Naxal propaganda, as in the past posters warning of a Kolhan shutdown have caused panic among locals.
