Ghatshila Delegation Pushes for District Status with CM Soren
Demand for Ghatshila District and Baharagora Subdivision Gains Momentum
Key Points:
- Delegation meets CM Hemant Soren, submits formal memorandum
- All-party meeting previously endorsed Ghatshila as a district
- CM assures the delegation of appropriate action on the matter
JAMSHEDPUR – A delegation under ‘Abhiyan for a Better Tomorrow’ met Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday, demanding Ghatshila be declared a district and Baharagora a subdivision.
The delegation submitted a memorandum during their meeting in the CM’s assembly chamber. Earlier, an all-party meeting in Ghatshila, chaired by Dr. Dinesh Sarangi, unanimously passed a resolution in favor of the district status. The proposal highlights the growing demand for administrative restructuring to address local issues effectively.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren acknowledged the importance of the demand and assured the group that the matter would be reviewed seriously. Sadhu Charan Pal, coordinator of the delegation, emphasized the necessity of creating Ghatshila as a district for regional development.
The delegation included key representatives such as Dr. Dinesh Sarangi, Rajendra Sharma, Anurag, and Sadhana Devi. They represented different social and community organizations that have actively supported the cause.
In recent years, the region has seen growing infrastructure challenges, further strengthening the demand. Ghatshila, known for its natural beauty and tribal culture, has been a focal point for development initiatives. Meanwhile, Baharagora’s increasing population has driven the call for its subdivision status to improve local governance.
“This demand is not new. It represents the aspirations of the people,” said a member of the delegation after the meeting.
Ghatshila, part of Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district, holds historical and cultural significance. It is also a hub for tourism and mining industries, which can benefit from enhanced administrative focus.
