CHAKRADHARPUR – In a tragic incident in Chakradharpur’s Jamid village, 55-year-old Priya Devi was killed on Monday evening when a mentally unstable local youth, Karamu Mahato, attacked her with a sword while she was gathering wood in her orchard. Mahato, reportedly disturbed, approached her with a sword and struck her on the neck, leaving her critically injured.
Upon witnessing her condition, family members rushed Priya Devi to the subdivision hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival. News of the incident spread rapidly throughout the village, prompting locals to unite and search for the assailant.
After an extensive search, they located Mahato in the nearby Bandodih village, where he was reportedly seen brandishing the sword, and handed him over to the police.
Outraged by the killing, villagers gathered on Tuesday to block the Chakradharpur-Sonua road, demanding stricter action against the accused. Tensions remain high as authorities work to manage the situation and address the villagers’ grievances.
