War of Words between IMA and Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy
IMA Members Allege Harassment by MLA in a Spirited Public Challenge
In a dramatic escalation of war of words in Jamshedpur, IMA members accuse MLA Saryu Roy of targeting doctors for personal gains, signaling a contentious debate ahead.
JAMSHEDPUR – In a striking development, on Tuesday, IMA officials have openly challenged MLA Saryu Roy to a public debate over allegations of harassing doctors.
Doctors convened at IMA Bhawan Sakchi, accusing the MLA of political vendettas.
The confrontation centers around senior female doctor Dr. Renuka Chaudhary, allegedly questioned by MLA Roy.
Accusations fly as IMA members claim MLA Roy is diverting from development issues to wrongly implicate Dr. Chaudhary.
They claimed that prior to this, MLA Roy’s scrutiny led to the dismissal of Civil Surgeon Dr. AK Lal, now reinstated by High Court order.
They alleged that Dr. Lal’s dismissal, based on unfounded allegations, resulted in significant personal and professional turmoil for him.
They also said that Dr. Chaudhary’s pension was halted in 2015, a decision taken during Saryu Roy’s tenure as minister.
Incidentally, Dr. Saurab Chaudhary, an leading office bearer of IMA, is son of Dr. Renuka Chaudhary.
The IMA members said that the pension dispute, rooted in a service break, remains unresolved in court, with MLA Roy renewing focus on the case.
MLA Saryu Roy defends his actions, arguing his critique of Dr. Chaudhary’s absence from duty is part of broader anti-corruption efforts.
Legal and Political Ramifications
The ongoing legal battle over Dr. Chaudhary’s pension is likely to remain unresolved for some time.
IMA officials, rallying around Dr. Chaudhary, underscore the need for public representatives to desist from leveling persons allegations.
Public and Professional Response
IMA members claim that their decision to come out against MLA Roy reflects a broader demand for accountability in the treatment of professionals.
They claimed that the association’s stance underscores a resistance to political interference in the medical profession and advocacy for the rights of healthcare workers.
However, MLA Saryu Roy made it clear that as an elected representative of the people it is his responsibility to raise issues of corruption and anomalies in all areas of public concern and he would remain undaunted in discharging his responsibility.
On the other hand, his supporters said that it is highly unwarranted and unprofessional of an association to question the right of an MLA to raise issues in Assembly and Parliament. They said that nobody can stop any public representative from raising any issue on the floor of the Assembly. Instead, the Association should look into its own affairs and ensure that no lines are crossed to avoid questions by the public.
