• Election Commission ordered removal of acting DGP Anurag Gupta
• Singh previously held key positions including ACB Director General
RANCHI – Veteran IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh has been reinstated as Jharkhand’s Director General of Police following an Election Commission directive.
The 1989-batch officer brings extensive experience to the role.
Previously, Singh served as Chairman and Managing Director of the Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited.
Moreover, he has held several key positions throughout his career.
In addition to his current appointment, Singh formerly led the Anti-Corruption Bureau as Director General.
His diverse background includes stints as Superintendent of Police in various districts.
On the other hand, the Election Commission ordered the immediate removal of acting DGP Anurag Gupta.
This decision came ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections.
The state government was instructed to comply with the order by 7 pm on the day of issuance.
Furthermore, Singh’s appointment follows the retirement of Neeraj Sinha from the top police post.
Meanwhile, a senior official remarked, "Singh’s experience and leadership will be crucial in maintaining law and order during the election period."
The Election Commission emphasized the need for a senior DGP-level officer to assume the role.
In contrast to Singh’s extensive background, Gupta had only been appointed as acting DGP in July.
However, the sudden change in leadership is expected to bring stability to the police force.
"This appointment demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring fair and secure elections," an expert commentator noted.
