LOHARDAGA – Protests erupted in Lohardaga today as the tribal community blocked major roads, demanding justice for 15-year-old footballer Monika Bada, who tragically died in a car accident on September 4.
A month after the incident, no significant action has been taken against the responsible parties, sparking public outrage.
The protest, led by Chaitu Oraon, took place at Subhash Chowk, Lohardaga, where roads connecting Lohardaga, Kudu, and Gumla were blocked.
Oraon stated that while the car involved was seized, the authorities have yet to take further action, leaving Monika’s family without justice.
He called for the immediate arrest of those responsible and a ₹1 crore compensation package, including a government job for one of Monika’s family members.
Protesters believe the delay in action is due to the influence of those involved in the accident.
Many participants accused the police of neglecting tribal issues and failing to ensure justice.
The protesters, carrying photos of the deceased athlete, vowed to intensify the demonstrations if their demands are not met.
The road blockade resulted in significant traffic disruption, causing inconvenience to commuters.
The demonstrators included men, women, youth, and fellow athletes who expressed solidarity with Monika’s family.
The tribal leaders warned that if no action is taken soon, they will escalate the protests.
