Karim City College Hosts Script Writing Workshop

Mumbai screenwriter Sajal Kumar shares insights with Mass Communication students

A script writing workshop led by Mumbai-based screenwriter Sajal Kumar was organized by Karim City College’s Mass Communication Department.

JAMSHEDPUR – Karim City College’s Mass Communication Department hosted a script writing workshop featuring Mumbai-based screenwriter Sajal Kumar, sharing industry insights with students.

Sajal Kumar, an engineer and IIM MBA graduate, has been writing scripts for web series and cinema for seven years.

The screenwriter has received two Filmfare Award nominations for his short films.

Kumar emphasized the importance of a well-crafted script as the foundation of compelling cinema.

"The basis of good cinema is a tight script," he remarked during the session.

Kumar engaged students in a practical exercise of writing short stories and developing them into scripts.

He discussed the evolution of storytelling and character portrayal over the decades.

"Scriptwriting needs to evolve with time," Kumar noted, highlighting changes in hero portrayals from the 60s to present day.

The workshop marked Kumar’s first engagement with Karim City College students.

Renowned theatre artist Shivlal Sagar attended the event and appreciated the initiative.

Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Mass Communication Department, introduced Kumar and delivered a welcome address.

Dr. Rashmi Kumari extended a floral welcome to the guest.

Tanmay Singh Solanki presented a vote of thanks at the conclusion of the workshop.

Syed Shahzeb, Kulpreet Bhamra, and Syed Sajid Parvez managed the event and prepared video documentation.
