Satish Kumar appointed as new Chairman & CEO of Railway Board
Satish Kumar, IRMS officer, succeeds in appointment as the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board effective from September 1, 2024.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Satish Kumar as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, starting September 1, 2024. The Indian Railway Management Service officer’s contract runs until January 31, 2025.
NEW DELHI – In a significant development, Satish Kumar, an officer of the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), has been appointed as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board.
The appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), is effective from September 1, 2024.
Kumar will succeed Ms. Jaya Verma Sinha, the current Chairman & CEO.
The ACC’s decision has marked a new chapter in Kumar’s career, who is currently serving as a Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) on the Railway Board.
His tenure as Chairman & CEO is set to continue until January 31, 2025, under contract, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
This leadership change is aligned with the Government’s vision to enhance the efficiency and modernization of Indian Railways, leveraging Kumar’s expertise in rolling stock and traction.
Under his leadership, the Railway Board is expected to push forward significant reforms in rail infrastructure and operations.

As Chairman & CEO, Satish Kumar is poised to play a crucial role in steering the Indian Railways through its next phase of development.
“Mr. Kumar’s vast experience in traction and rolling stock will be instrumental in driving forward the Railway Board’s initiatives,” said a senior official from the Ministry of Railways.
His appointment comes at a time when Indian Railways is focusing on enhancing safety, punctuality, and the modernization of its services.
