Jamshedpur Launches Mega Thalassemia Awareness Program

District Administration and Thalassemia Society join forces to educate public

East Singhbhum District organizes a comprehensive awareness initiative to combat thalassemia, emphasizing prevention through education and community involvement.

JAMSHEDPUR – The District Administration of East Singhbhum, in partnership with the Thalassemia Society of Jamshedpur, hosted a "Mega Thalassemia Awareness Program" at Kerala Public School, Kadma.

District Magistrate Ananya Mittal inaugurated the event as the chief guest, stressing the importance of public awareness in preventing thalassemia.

"Awareness is the only prevention," Mittal declared, drawing parallels with the successful polio eradication campaign.

The program aimed to educate the youth about early detection and prevention of thalassemia, a hereditary blood disorder causing severe anemia.

Sharat Chandran, Director of Kerala Public Group of Schools, and Sunil Mukherjee, President of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association, highlighted the significance of public engagement in awareness campaigns.

Medical experts Dr. Sanjay Chaudhary and Dr. Amit Mukherjee provided insights on thalassemia, emphasizing the need for blood donations and genetic counseling.

The event saw participation from school principals, corporate representatives, Rotary and Lions Clubs members, and medical professionals.

Mittal announced the formation of a District Core Team to implement preventive measures across schools, industrial houses, and community blocks.

The team will comprise officers from Health, Education, Panchayati Raj, Social Welfare, and Public Relations departments.

Key district officials, including DTO Dhananjay and District Social Welfare Officer Sandhya Rani, attended the event, underscoring the administration’s commitment to thalassemia prevention.

The District Administration aims to tackle thalassemia with the same rigor that led to polio eradication.

Thalassemia Society of Jamshedpur received commendation for its ongoing efforts in raising awareness about the disorder.

The diverse turnout at the event highlighted the community’s dedication to addressing the thalassemia challenge.

Mittal encouraged citizens to take social responsibility seriously in combating the genetic disorder.
