Meteorological Centre Ranchi forecasts increased precipitation across Jharkhand, with warnings for flash floods in southern regions

RANCHI – The Meteorological Centre, Ranchi has issued a series of weather alerts for Jharkhand, indicating an intensification of monsoon activity across the state over the coming days.

The center has sounded a yellow alert for isolated thunderstorms and lightning covering the entire state from July 29 to July 31, 2024.

This alert serves as a cautionary measure, urging residents to stay vigilant and updated on rapidly changing weather conditions.

Thunderstorm warnings

The Meteorological Centre has issued a thunderstorm warning for Day 4 to Day 5, valid from 0830 IST of 29/07/2024 up to 0830 IST of 31/07/2024.

This warning covers all districts of Jharkhand, including major cities like Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Bokaro.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during thunderstorms.

Heavy rainfall alerts

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Day 1, valid from 0830 IST of 26/07/2024 to 0830 IST of 27/07/2024.

Isolated heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is expected in several districts, including:

– Latehar

– Ranchi

Khunti

– Saraikela Kharsawan

– East Singhbhum

Very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm) has been forecast for:

– Lohardaga

– Gumla

– Simdega

– West Singhbhum

Residents in these areas, particularly in low-lying regions, are advised to be prepared for potential water logging and flash floods.

Local authorities have been alerted to take necessary precautions and implement disaster management protocols if required.

The Meteorological Centre reports that no significant changes are expected in maximum temperatures across Jharkhand over the next 5 days.

Rainfall distribution

The monsoon trough is currently passing through Daltonganj, enhancing precipitation chances across the state.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places from July 27-29.

Widespread rainfall is forecast from July 30 to August 1 across almost all districts of Jharkhand.

The highest 24-hour rainfall of 70.6 mm was recorded at Maithon DVC in Dhanbad district, followed closely by Maithon CWC (Dhanbad) at 60.8 mm, and Panchet DVC (Dhanbad) at 58.4 mm.
