District Officials Outline Comprehensive Measures to Enhance Road Safety

JAMSHEDPUR – A crucial traffic and road safety meeting, chaired by District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, was held at the Collectorate Auditorium, bringing together key officials to address the pressing issue of road accidents in the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal, DTO Dhananjay, and representatives from various departments attended the meeting, focusing on implementing effective road safety measures.
"Our goal is to significantly reduce road accidents through a combination of education, enforcement, and public awareness," stated Mittal during the meeting.
Key Initiatives and Discussions
The meeting outlined several important measures to improve road safety:
1. Road Safety Workshops: Plans to organize workshops for school children and educational institutions.
2. Accident Statistics Analysis: Review of May’s 29 road accidents, resulting in 15 fatalities and 18 serious injuries.
3. Urban Traffic Management: Guidelines for auto drivers, including ID cards and uniforms.
4. License Suspension and Fines: 114 licenses suspended in May, with fines totaling around Rs 7 lakh collected.
5. Compensation for Hit and Run Cases: Discussion on expediting Rs 2 lakh compensation for victims’ families.
Public Awareness and Recognition
Mittal issued a public safety message, particularly targeting youth and parents:
"Life is precious. Avoid overspeeding and stunts. Parents must ensure minors do not drive vehicles," she emphasized.
The meeting also recognized Good Samaritans, awarding Rs 9,000 in honorariums to individuals who assisted accident victims.
This comprehensive approach underscores the district administration’s commitment to reducing road accidents and promoting safer streets in Jamshedpur.
