Commercial Use of Basements and Unauthorized Constructions Targeted Amid Legal Directives

In a decisive move following the directives of the Ranchi High Court, SDO Parul Singh has initiated a stringent crackdown on building code violations in Jamshedpur.

JAMSHEDPUR – SDO Parul Singh, in response to High Court directives, has initiated a campaign against the unlawful commercial utilization of basements and unauthorized constructions in Jamshedpur, leading to a surge of concern among building owners.

The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has found 21 buildings that have violated regulations, specifically by misusing basements that were meant for parking.

The owners of these buildings have received notices, requesting them to stop their commercial activities and restore these spaces to their original purpose.

SDO Parul Singh, who is responsible for enforcing the court’s directive, stressed the importance of addressing the violations and promised that appropriate action would be taken against those who misuse basement parking spaces.

Teams quickly moved in to inspect and seal basements that were not in compliance, showcasing her firm stance.

Hotel Centre Point and Dayal International were recently inspected, along with Shatabdi Tower and Suzuki Showroom in Sakchi. These establishments were surveyed and have been ordered to clear their basements.

Despite the best efforts made, there have been reports of continued construction in certain multi-storey buildings, even after authorities have sealed them for violating approved building plans.

There are concerns about the effectiveness of the ongoing enforcement actions due to this clear disregard for the law.

A building owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared their frustration about the limited time given to implement substantial modifications.

It’s quite surprising that some buildings are still going against the law, carrying on with construction activities even after being ordered to stop.

There is a growing demand for increased monitoring and stricter penalties due to the ongoing presence of these unlawful activities.

As per sources from the JNAC, the utilization of basements for commercial purposes instead of parking has resulted in parked vehicles occupying the roads in front of buildings.

According to the National Building Code, the majority of basement space, specifically 85 percent, is designated for parking purposes. The remaining 15 percent is allocated for private security guards and generator sets.
