Jharkhand Urged to Declare January 22 as Dry Day

MP Deepak Prakash Advocates for ‘Dry Day’ in Jharkhand on January 22

Deepak Prakash’s letter to CM Soren demands January 22 as a dry day in Jharkhand, aligning with UP and Chhattisgarh’s decision, citing cultural and moral significance.

RANCHI – In a significant move, former JP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash has urged the Jharkhand government to follow in the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in declaring January 22 as a ‘dry day’.

The date coincides with the grand event of Ramlala Pran Pratishtha in Ayodhya, a momentous occasion that Deepak Prakash associates with the virtuous and dignified legacy of Lord Shri Ram.

Lord Ram, renowned for his exemplary conduct and moral uprightness, is often referred to as an ideal man and Maryada Purushottam.

Prakash, in his letter, emphasized Lord Ram’s 14-year exile and his adherence to truth, mercy, compassion, religion, and dignity, despite the challenges he faced.

This historical reverence, according to Prakash, should be mirrored in Jharkhand by banning the sale of liquor and meat on January 22, just as in Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

He articulated this proposal in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, arguing the cultural and moral significance of making January 22 a ‘dry day’ in the state.

Deepak Prakash’s letter signifies a call for alignment with a broader cultural ethos, urging Jharkhand to join its neighboring states in marking January 22 as a day of sobriety and respect.
