JNAC Orders Red Lights on Buildings Near Sonari Airport

Safety Measure Aims to Enhance Aircraft Navigation and Security

Local authorities respond to Tata Steel’s concerns, mandating rooftop lighting for taller structures.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has issued notices to approximately a dozen building owners in the vicinity of Sonari Airport, requiring them to install red lights on their rooftops.

"This initiative is crucial for ensuring the safety of air traffic," stated Krishna Kumar, JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner.

Key Developments

The directive follows a security concern letter from Tata Steel.

JNAC engineers Pranav Thakur and Amit Anand conducted on-site inspections.

Buildings taller than G+2 must install 24-hour operational red lights.

Regulatory Measures

A new standard operating procedure regulates building heights near the airport.

Restrictions on rooftop access aim to prevent interference with aircraft operations.

The Airport Authority has set height limits for buildings, towers, and chimneys in the area.

Implementation Progress

Many building owners have already complied with previous notices.

Those yet to install red lights have been ordered to do so promptly.

"These high-beam red lights are essential for pilots during regular flights and emergency situations," Kumar explained.

This measure underscores the importance of urban planning in ensuring aviation safety, particularly in areas with growing infrastructure near airports.

The initiative reflects a collaborative effort between local authorities, industry, and property owners to maintain air traffic safety standards in Jamshedpur.
