Injured Elephant Trapped in Chandil Well, Forest Dept on Rescue Mission
A six-foot elephant, separated from its herd, falls into a dry well in Chandil, sparking a major rescue operation.
CHANDIL – An elephant, distanced from its herd, plummeted into a dry well in Anda village, located in the Chandil forest area.
The incident, causing significant injury to the elephant, occurred near Rohin Singh Munda’s house.
Villagers of Anda and surrounding areas were alarmed by the elephant’s distressed trumpeting through the night.
Lakhikant, a local, recounted that the mishap happened when a herd of wild elephants, having ravaged crops and straw in the village, scattered in panic due to firecrackers.
This led to the lone elephant accidentally falling into the well.
The Forest Department was immediately alerted to the situation.
Chandil forest area official manager Mirdha confirmed that a rescue team was dispatched promptly.
Rescue efforts are being conducted using a JCV machine, amid concerns about the elephant’s internal injuries.
A medical team has been summoned to provide necessary treatment to the injured elephant.
This incident has highlighted the challenges of wildlife cohabitation in populated areas and the urgent need for effective measures to prevent such occurrences.
