BJP President Babulal Marandi Flays Jharkhand Govt Over Women’s Safety
Marandi Labels Hemant Soren’s Government as ‘Anti-Woman’, Cites Rising Rape Incidents
Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi condemns the state government’s handling of women’s safety, citing alarming statistics of increasing rape incidents.
RANCHI – Babulal Marandi, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand, has made a strong statement against the state government led by Hemant Soren, labeling it as ‘anti-woman’.
In a remark today, Marandi highlighted the distressing data on atrocities against women in Jharkhand, pointing out that on average, five women fall victim to crimes daily.
He questioned the efficacy of the state’s governance, asking if it is in the hands of those who commit or promote such crimes.
According to Marandi, official statistics reveal a troubling scenario, with a total of 1794 rape incidents reported in 2020, 1617 in 2021, and 1612 in 2022.
This averages to approximately five women being raped every day over these three years.
Marandi expressed deep concern over the situation, noting that in the first nine months of 2023 alone, there have been 1246 reported rape incidents, averaging 140 per month.
He drew a parallel to the mythological figure Duryodhan, accusing Chief Minister Hemant Soren of emulating such a character.
Marandi’s words intensified as he likened the daily incidents of rape to the disrobing of Draupadi, a figure from Indian epic Mahabharata, accusing the government of turning a blind eye and even promoting such heinous acts.
He remarked: “It is a matter of great shame for the state that even after 4 years of rule, the Hemant government is not able to guarantee the security of honor, respect and self-respect of more than half the population. Today in Jharkhand, everyone from a 4 month old girl to an 80 year old woman is not feeling safe.”
He further added: “ The increasing incidents of rape in the Hemant government reflect the anti-women mentality of the government and its failure in building a better society.”
The BJP leader also ominously stated, "Hemant, your end has now begun," invoking the image of the goddess Kali, often associated with destruction and retribution.
