Jharkhand EC Launches Voting Rights Workshop for Third Gender
Jharkhand EC enhances electoral inclusivity with a special voter list revision for third gender before Lok Sabha elections.
JAMSHEDPUR – A landmark initiative was undertaken in Jamshedpur’s Michael John Auditorium to empower the third gender with the right to vote.
The event, a special short revision program of the voter list, was organized before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
K Ravi, an officer from the State Election Commission, played a pivotal role in educating third gender individuals and Block Level Officers (BLOs) about the Central Election Commission’s guidelines.

The workshop commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony.
Notable attendees included State Election Commission officials, the Deputy Development Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police, City and Sub-Divisional Officers, along with BLOs who contribute to the Third Gender Mentally Challenged Children Election Commission.
During the program, third gender representative Amarjeet Singh Shergil acknowledged the Jharkhand government’s introduction of a pension scheme for eunuchs, expressing gratitude for this progressive step.
Shergil also highlighted the significant milestone of the third gender receiving voting rights from the Election Commission.
K Ravi emphasized the Commission’s commitment to universal suffrage, highlighting efforts to ensure every community’s voting rights.
He acknowledged the crucial role of BLOs, who are instrumental in creating comprehensive voter lists by visiting homes.
The workshop underscored the importance of electoral participation, urging all eligible voters to exercise their right.
