Breakthrough in Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue, 41 Workers to be Saved
NDMA reports nearing completion of rescue operation for 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand.
DESK – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has made significant progress in the rescue operation at the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
According to the NDMA, 58 meters of drilling has been completed, with only about 2 meters remaining.
The trapped workers are reportedly able to hear the sound of drilling, indicating close proximity.
Once the breakthrough is achieved, the NDMA plans to extract each of the 41 trapped men, estimating 3-5 minutes per individual.
Therefore, the entire operation could take approximately 3-4 hours.
The NDMA is also preparing for potential challenges, such as equipment breakdowns, to ensure a smooth rescue process.
At around 1:10 pm, a breakthrough was achieved by the rescue team, as confirmed by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The workers are expected to be rescued shortly following this development.
To facilitate immediate medical attention, ambulances and a medical team have been stationed at the site.
The 41 workers will be transported to a community health center for necessary medical care.
This rescue operation underscores the NDMA’s commitment to disaster management and the safety of workers in high-risk environments.
The successful completion of this operation will be a testament to the effectiveness of disaster response strategies in India.
