Incessant Rains in Jamshedpur: Admn on Alert

Continuous rainfall disrupts normal life in Jamshedpur. DC Manjunath Bhajantri alerts officers and advises citizens on safety.

JAMSHEDPUR – As relentless rainfall continues to disrupt normal life in Jamshedpur, Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri has issued an alert to administration officials and advised citizens to remain on guard.

Acting on the DC’s instructions, the entire administrative staff has been mobilized to ensure public safety. Inundated lower areas are being evacuated and residents are being directed to safer higher grounds.

Besides evacuation measures, the Deputy Commissioner has also issued a public appeal to ensure the district’s residents do not face loss of life and property due to electricity-related mishaps during the monsoon.

He advises people to stay away from power lines, transformers, and poles during heavy rains to prevent electric shocks.

Preventive Measures

Mr. Bhajantri urges residents to report immediately to the Electricity Supply Division if a pole has fallen in a field due to strong winds or if a tree branch is touching an electric wire. He also advised the public to refrain from meddling with power lines or transformers, and to avoid standing or sitting underneath power lines.

Safety Tips during Lightning

To avoid lightning strikes, residents are advised to stay away from electrical equipment, wired telephones, metal pipes, taps, fountains, and washbasins. For those working outdoors, they should seek refuge in a safe and dry place if there’s a threat of lightning. Tall trees, ponds, and reservoirs should be avoided, and it’s safer to stay in a pucca house or inside a vehicle during a storm. If one is unable to find refuge, they should stand on dry objects and avoid lying on the ground.

Handling Lightning Strikes

In the unfortunate event of a lightning strike, immediate first aid should be provided, and artificial respiration should be given if needed. Lightning-affected individuals should be immediately reported to the concerned Zonal Officer, District Disaster Management Officer, or the Deputy Commissioner.
