JAMSHEDPUR – A sudden lightning strike during an evening shower at Bhadudih’s weekly market in Chandil claimed three lives and severely injured five others on Wednesday.
"The incident occurred unexpectedly as shoppers were bustling through the market," a local police official stated.
Deceased identified as Subodhra Majhi (35), his son Biresh Majhi (10), and Suku Mardi (32), all from Hamsada, Chandil.
Three victims – Gurupad Singh, Indrajit Singh, and Sugi Murmu (50) – are in critical condition at MGM Hospital.
AJSU Party’s Harelal Mahato provided his private ambulance to transport the injured.
"We responded swiftly to the emergency," Mahato said, emphasizing community support during the crisis.
Two individuals grazing bulls nearby suffered minor burns and received treatment at a Chilgu clinic.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of sudden weather changes during monsoon season.
Local authorities are reviewing safety measures for outdoor markets during inclement weather.
The community mourns the loss while hoping for the recovery of those hospitalized.
