Manipal Tata Medical College Successfully Hosts 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science Workshop

A three-day transformational event, the 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science workshop, was recently held at Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) from July 25 to 27.

JAMSHEDPUR – Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) recently concluded a three-day transformational event, the 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science workshop, which was held from July 25 to 27.

The event, organized by the respected International Chair of Bioethics, was designed to equip medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and health science faculty with the skills required to teach the current integrated bioethics curriculum.

The workshop, which was approved as a training course, saw attendance from a group of eminent specialists including Dr. Russell D’Souza, the International Chair of Bioethics’s Head of the Asia Pacific Region, and Dr. Mary Mathew, the International Chair of Bioethics’s Head of the India chapter.

Other distinguished professors, including Dr. Gireesh and Dr. Princy Pallaty, actively participated, ensuring an in-depth and illuminating educational experience for all attendees.

The 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science Workshop was attended by 40 medical faculty members from Tata Main Hospital and Manipal Tata Medical College. Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, participants gained crucial insights into addressing ethical dilemmas and fostering ethical behaviour in their respective fields.

"This workshop provided a unique platform for medical faculty to engage in thought-provoking discussions on bioethics," said Dr. Russell D’Souza, expressing his gratitude for the enthusiastic participation.

The training programme aims to safeguard the well-being of patients and professionals alike by instilling ethical values and principles in the healthcare industry.

The workshop’s curriculum is grounded on the 15 tenets of the 2005 Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights, which encourages the application of ethical standards in healthcare.

The meticulously designed 3T-IBHSc training course will introduce the fundamental curriculum of vertically and horizontally integrated bioethics to faculty members from various universities and colleges.

According to Dr. Mary Mathew, the programme underscored the importance of incorporating bioethics into healthcare education. "Through the development of ethical behaviour and decision-making skills, we aim to produce ethically responsible and accountable healthcare professionals," she noted.

MTMC, a constituent part of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and an Institution of Eminence (IoE), is known for its commitment to delivering excellent medical education and healthcare services.

Offering various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the medical field, the Jamshedpur-based institution remains dedicated to nurturing future medical professionals.

The 3T-Integrated Bioethics in Health Science Workshop aligns with their objective of fostering ethically guided healthcare practitioners.

By hosting this programme, MTMC has made significant strides in enabling healthcare faculty to impart ethical principles to the future generation of healthcare professionals.
