Annual Monsoon Festival in Jamshedpur pays homage to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, with dance and music performances themed around monsoon and love.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Tagore Society of Jamshedpur celebrated the annual Monsoon Festival at the city’s cultural hub, Rabindra Bhawan, honoring renowned poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
The event aimed to continue the tradition set by Viswa Kavi Rabindranath of celebrating the monsoon season, which he cherished deeply.
Artistic Performances Based on Tagore’s Works
The festival featured dance and music performances themed around the monsoon season and love, inspired by the works of Tagore.
The dance-drama performances reimagined the famous Bard’s poetic songs, drawn by the romance of the monsoon.
Students of the Tagore School of Arts presented these dance routines and song renditions, directed by Shubhendu Roy Chowdhury and Chandana Chowdhury, culminating in a full-scale musical extravaganza.
Musical Complements to the Performances
Providing musical support to the performances were Dr. Parthopriyo Das and Amitabh Dutta from Kolkata (tabla), Kumaresh Chanda on sitar, and Arundhati Roy on keyboard.
In an immersive blend of Tagore’s music and a monsoon theme, the evening witnessed a soulful dance and music presentation.
In his address at the event, Tagore Society General Secretary Ashis Chowdhury emphasized Rabindranath Tagore’s unique position as a poet of nature and how his works connect us to nature. "While we all talk about reconnecting with nature today, Tagore had already conveyed this message 150 years ago through his works," he remarked.
