Jamshedpur Celebrates Dance with NRITYA-BASANT Festival

NRITYA-BASANT 2024 at Sonari Community Centre showcases diverse dance forms.

630 participants including children and women from urban areas showcase their talent in Indian dance at the NRITYA-BASANT festival, emphasizing community engagement and cultural preservation.

JAMSHEDPUR – The three-day dance festival NRITYA-BASANT, hosted from March 19th to 21st, 2024, at the Sonari Community Centre, became a vibrant platform for showcasing a wide range of dance forms, including Indian Classical, Semi-Classical, Folk, and Bollywood.

The event was a significant part of Tata Steel Foundation’s Urban Services initiatives, focusing on the welfare and social development of the urban poor in Jamshedpur.

In a remarkable display of community and talent, 630 participants spread across 65 teams brought the stage to life with their performances, celebrating the diverse cultural heritage of India through dance.

Children and women from the Masti Ki Pathshala (MKP), a residential school managed by Tata Steel Foundation for deprived children, were among the performers, highlighting their untapped potential and artistic skills.

The NRITYA-BASANT festival not only provided a stage for participants from marginalized sections of society to showcase their talents but also served as a conduit for promoting and preserving Indian classical and contemporary dance forms.

For the past 18 years, Urban Services has been committed to nurturing the skills of women, youth, and children through various semi-skilled and skilled classes, including dance and music, across community centres in Jamshedpur.

The festival underscored the importance of cultural events in fostering social integration, learning, and personal growth among participants from all walks of life.

NRITYA-BASANT was an open event, welcoming performers from the bustee areas across generations, thereby enriching the cultural tapestry of Jamshedpur and reinforcing the city’s commitment to arts and education.

The Urban Services wing of Tata Steel Foundation has been diligently working towards the betterment of urban areas, with a focus on uplifting the economically weaker sections through skill development and cultural engagement.
