RANCHI – President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the new building of the High Court of Jharkhand at Ranchi today, May 24, 2023.

She praised the impressive new facilities and applauded the environmental focus of the construction, urging others to follow suit in future developments.

Speaking at the inauguration, the President referred to courts as temples of justice, affirming that the power to dispense justice and right wrongs is a serious responsibility.

She addressed the issue of access to justice, highlighting the economic barriers faced by many citizens, and urged all stakeholders to find innovative ways to expand the reach of justice.

She welcomed initiatives such as free legal counseling cells aimed at reducing litigation expenses.

Addressing the language barrier in the justice system, she noted that the reliance on English often excludes a large portion of the population from the process. In a linguistically diverse state like Jharkhand, she encouraged authorities to make court processes more accessible to people who are more comfortable with languages other than English.

The President also emphasized the need for justice accessibility for undertrials and addressed the issue of overcrowded prisons.

She commended the legal fraternity’s efforts to make the justice delivery system more accessible and inclusive, particularly for women.

President Murmu concluded her speech by urging stakeholders to devise systems to ensure the implementation of court verdicts, emphasizing that those who have invested time, energy, and money in litigation deserve real justice.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu paid floral tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Lance Naik Albert Ekka in Ranchi and interacted with members of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) at Raj Bhavan.
