Jharkhand High Court Embraces Digitization with Launch of Android App and QR Directory

Acting Chief Justice Highlights Transformative Impact of Technology on Judicial System

JAMSHEDPUR – In a significant step towards embracing technological advancements and promoting efficiency within the judicial system, the Jharkhand High Court organized a momentous program on May 8, marking the launch of an Android Mobile Application and the release of a QR Directory of e-Services.

The event, attended by esteemed dignitaries including all Judges of the High Court of Jharkhand, the Advocate General, Additional Advocate Generals, Additional Solicitor General, Deputy Solicitor Generals, Chairman of the Jharkhand State Bar Council, and distinguished members of the legal fraternity, aimed to enhance accessibility and transparency in the justice dispensation system.

Acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashkhar, in his address, emphasized the transformative impact of technology on court proceedings while stressing the need to bridge the digital divide.

He commended the High Court’s efforts in significantly reducing case pendency, with 24,769 cases disposed of between January 1, 2024, and April 30, 2024, despite having only 19 Judges constituting five Division Benches and nine Single Judge Benches.

The Acting Chief Justice highlighted the importance of efficiency, citing a remarkable clearance rate of 138.41% during the period, resulting in a substantial reduction in total pendency.

Justice Ananda Sen, Chairperson of the Computer and Digitization Committee, High Court of Jharkhand, elaborated on the functionalities of the newly launched Android App.

Developed in-house by the technical team, the app offers a range of services including case status, cause lists, orders, judgments, e-filing, and access to over 3,51,622 final orders and judgments through e-HCR.

Justice Sen also highlighted the significance of the QR directory in facilitating easy access to e-services for litigants.

He asserted that the day is not far away when lawyers can appear in court paperless, with two courts already running paperless in the High Court of Jharkhand and live streaming of case proceedings in one court.

The program commenced with a welcome note by Mohammad Shakir, Registrar General, High Court of Jharkhand, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Biresh Kumar, Central Project Coordinator, e-Courts Project, High Court of Jharkhand.
