Seraikela – In an alarming trend of road accidents in Seraikela district, 16 more women laborers were injured due to the overturning of an overloaded auto Tuesday.

This is the second such incident within a week, leading to growing concerns about the effectiveness of the district’s traffic system.

The incident occurred around 8:30 AM on Tuesday near Dugni on the Seraikela-Kandra main road.

The auto, carrying 15 women laborers and the driver, was en route to a construction site in Saldih when it attempted to avoid a Scorpio, resulting in the vehicle overturning.

Following the accident, local residents and a passerby, Shankar Satpati, quickly alerted the road ambulance service.

The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital, where two of the women were referred for further treatment.

Seraikela police have since taken custody of the auto and are proceeding with an investigation.

Amidst increasing road accidents, local residents are questioning the effectiveness of the police-administration’s preventive measures. Authorities’ efforts are under scrutiny as overloaded vehicles continue to pose significant risks to road safety in the district.
