Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum District Bar Association has given a 12-hour ultimatum to take action against the erring officer who placed attorney Chandan Kumar Choubey in handcuffs and took him to jail on Tuesday night in connection with the Kadma Shashtri Nagar communal violence case.
The Association officials have made it clear through a letter to the Jharkhand Bar Council that If no action is taken within 12 hours i.e. till 7 am on April 13, the lawyers shall continue abstaining from their work tomorrow i.e. on Thursday too.
In a letter to the Secretary of Jharkhand State Bar Council, the ad hoc committee of East Singhbhum District Bar Association has informed that it has resolved to abstain from court work in the 2nd half of Wednesday.
The legal community has protested against the district police’s decision to place the advocate Chandan Choubey in handcuffs, and termed it an absolutely illegal act as per the guidelines of the Hon’ble Apex Court.

The attorneys staged a demonstration in front of the Jamshedpur Court on Wednesday morning and refused to perform the second shift.
Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav met with a delegation led by Lala Ajit Kumar Ambasht, chairman of the District Bar Association ad hoc committee, where the attorneys demanded the suspension of the police officer responsible for handcuffing the advocate.
Advocate Akshay Kumar told the DC that the defendant had not done anything to be handcuffed in the manner of a criminal.
The letter further stated that if no action is taken against the erring officer within the given timeframe, the lawyers will continue to abstain from their work on Thursday too. The legal community has demanded prompt action against the erring officer and has sought assurances that such incidents will not happen in the future.
