Villagers demonstrate at Tata Motors gate for jobs to locals in Solar Plant
Jamshedpur: A large number of villagers have taken to the streets to demand jobs for local laborers in the solar plant being set up by Tata Motors In Jamshedpur’s Jojobera area.
Under the banner of Gramin Vikas Samiti, the protesters gathered at the company’s gate, with placards and drums in hand, demanding 75% employment for the local people.
The demonstration rally began in Jojobera and continued towards the South Gate of Tata Motors Company, where the protesters continued to demonstrate with fervor.
The president of the Gramin Vikas Samiti spoke on behalf of the villagers, stating that the work on the plant was previously done by an outside contractor who failed to complete the work and fled the area, leaving laborers without pay.
The Samiti now demands that the work be given to a local contractor and that local laborers be hired for the project.
The president of the Samiti further emphasized that the employment opportunities in the plant should be reserved for local workers to prevent such an incident from happening again.
The demands of the protesters have been submitted to the company management for review. The company has not yet responded to the request of the Gramin Vikas Samiti.
However, the demonstration has drawn attention to the issue and the Samiti president expressed hope that it could lead to significant changes in the hiring policies of Tata Motors in the future.
