Week-long Johar Haat concludes in Jamshedpur

21 people from 6 states, representing 6 different tribes participated in the Haat, Over 1500 people visited the exhibition

Jamshedpur: The week-long Johar Haat, organised by Tata Steel Foundation from January 14 concluded today.

The exhibition organised at Prakriti Vihar in Kadma was conceptualised to create a dedicated space for exhibiting the art, craft, cuisine and culture of tribes across India. In the week-long exhibition, 21 people from 6 states, representing 6 different tribes participated in it. Johar Haat saw a footfall of over 1500 enthusiasts from in and around Jamshedpur.

Throughout the week, several workshops were organised at the Haat. A painting competition for children, a workshop on Tribal Cuisine conducted by Maya Soren from Shagun Mahila Samiti, a workshop on Lac Bangles conducted by Maino and Poma Murmu, a Saura Tattoo workshop conducted by Mecho Jamuda and a photography workshop were among the few events organised. Every day, a film screening was also organised by a team called ‘Samuday Ke Sath’. The films were based on various themes such as social issues faced by tribals and challenges faced by tribal artisans, among others.

Dokra Art, Sohrai paintings, Santhal Clothing, Warli organic products, Sabai Grass products, Saura art, Tribal Fashion Jewellery and Tribal Cuisine were among the few exhibits presented in this first edition of Johar Haat.

The Haat concluded by felicitation of all the participants and a tribal musical performance. The next edition of Johar Haat is being planned from February 14-20, 2023.
