Cyrus Mistry dies in car crash in Palghar near Mumbai

PM Narendra Modi calls his demise shocking, Rahul Gandhi too condoles

Desk: Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of Tata Group, died in a car crash Sunday in Palghar near Mumbai. He was 54.

He was reportedly traveling back to Mumbai from Ahmedabad and was in a Mercedes car. The accident occurred on a bridge over the Surya river.

The police officials have prima facie termed it an accident.

Another person traveling in the car also died, while two other persons including the driver of the car were injured in the accident.

Reports said that Cyrus Mistry died of head injuries caused by the impact of the crash.

The body of Cyrus Mistry was taken to Kasa Rural Hospital in Gujarat for postmortem.

The PM Narendra Modi called his demise shocking.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also mourned his death.

Piyush Goyal also expressed his anguish at his demise.

Cyrus Mistry has held several key corporate positions during his career, from being the MD of construction major Shapoorji Pallonji Group to leading the Tata Sons as its chairman. He was also the first non-Tata to head the Tata empire.

Mistry was 55. He completed his graduation in civil engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London in 1990 and then took a degree in management from London Business School in 1996.
