Yashwant Sinha meets Hemant Soren, seeks JMM support in presidential election

For now, JMM has 3 MPs and 31 MLAs in Jharkhand Assembly. JMM’s support to Draupadi Murmu would come very handy for the NDA.

Ranchi: The UPA candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, Yashwant Sinha Saturday called on the central working president of JMM and the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren,

Mri Sinha appealed to the Chief Minister to support his candidature in the oncoming presidential elections.

Jharkhand Pradesh Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey, State Congress President Rajesh Thakur and Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam were also present on this occasion.

JMM has already committed its support to the NDA candidate for the President’s post Draupadi Murmu ignoring the pleas of the UPA partners, sparking off rumours about a possible rift in UPA..

Draupadi Murmu’s candidature had put JMM into a big dilemma. Being from the Santhal tribe, she is all set to be the first tribal president of India and JMM would hardly afford to be seen opposing her candidature.

Besides, Hemant Soren and other leaders of JMM have always been very respectful towards her, especially due to her highly portly conduct as the Governor of Jharkhand.

In the letter announcing JMM’s support, the party said that her candidature for the President’s post is a proud moment for the tribals since independence.

For now, JMM has 3 MPs and 31 MLAs in Jharkhand Assembly. JMM’s support to Draupadi Murmu would come very handy for the NDA and would increase the chances of her victory, which now seems to be almost a foregone conclusion.
