BJM delegation meets Harpal Singh Thapar’s relatives

Saryu Roy speaks to family members over telephone, demands probe

Jamshedpur: Bhartiya Jan Morcha leader and MLA of Jamshedpur East Saryu Roy has demanded a probe into the reasons of death of Harpal Singh Thapar inside Ghaghidih jail.

Speaking to the family members of late Harpal Singh Thapar, director of Mother Teresa Welfare Trust, he said that the deep wound marks on the body of the deceased indicates that he might have undergone inhuman treatment inside jail.

He assured the family members to do everything to ensure that an independent probe is ordered into the matter.

Earlier, a delegation of Bharatiya Jan Morcha led by its District President Subodh Srivastava met the relatives and family members of Harpal Singh Thapar and conveyed its condolences.

Mr. Srivastava said that Harpal Singh Thapar was in jail on charges of sexual abuse.

However, the way he has died inside jail raises several questions.

The family members told the BJM leaders that when they had spoken to Harpal Singh two days before his death, he had not said anything about his being unwell.

However, injury marks have been found on the body of Harpal Singh which clearly indicates that he might have been tortured inside the jail premises.

They alleged that an attempt was made to hide the matter by saying that his death was caused due to bad health.

The BJM leaders got the family members to talk to MLA Saryu Rai over phone. Expressing his condolences to the family members, Mr. Roy assured to raise his voice for a probe into reasons of death.

District General Secretary of BJM Kulwinder Singh Pannu, Joginder Singh Jogi and Trilochan Singh said that they will press for proper investigation by the senior officers of the administration on this matter.
