Sonari Traders Protest Sudden Rent Hike

Shopkeepers Demand Written Order on Increased Rent

Key Points:

  • Sonari traders oppose sudden rent hike without notice
  • Shopkeepers seek written order from JNAC officials
  • Payments withheld until clarification is provided

JAMSHEDPUR – Traders in Sonari markets have protested a sudden rent increase and demanded official clarification from authorities.

Shopkeepers in Sonari raised concerns over unexpected rent hikes. They operate in Kagalanagar and Gudri markets.

However, these shops were originally leased by Tata Steel. Traders said they paid rent regularly for years.

Meanwhile, they claimed rent was increased from March 2026. Officials from JNAC allegedly enforced the change.

Moreover, traders said no prior notice was given. They also reported no clear explanation was provided.

On the other hand, shopkeepers asked about the legal basis. They said officials failed to give satisfactory answers.

However, traders have now stopped paying the increased rent. They insisted payments will resume only after written orders.

Meanwhile, they are willing to pay old rent rates. They requested formal documentation before accepting changes.

Moreover, traders demanded a proper payment system. They suggested options like bank, online, or counters.

In contrast, they emphasized the need for receipts. They want transparency in every transaction.

However, the traders urged authorities to intervene quickly. They called for a fair and clear resolution.

Meanwhile, markets in Jamshedpur often depend on such leases. Any sudden change affects livelihoods significantly.

Moreover, the situation has created uncertainty among families. Traders said their income depends entirely on these shops.
